Ruth M. Fuhrer

Renovo- Ruth M. Fuhrer, age 91, died at Bucktail Medical Center on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009. She was born in North Braddock, Pa. on April 29, 1917, daughter of the late Henry A. and Margaret J. (Shaw) Shephard. Ruth was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Renovo, was a member of the church choir, and worked as a nurse's aide at the old Renovo Hospital for many years. She was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, was a past Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls, former member of the Renovo Community Choir, served on the election board for Chapman Township and Renovo Boro, was a volunteer at Bucktail Medical Center and for 13 years at the Renovo Elementary school, and served for many years as a hostess at the Maxwell Funeral Home. She was an accomplished baker who was known best for her "English Muffin Bread." Surviving are her daughters: Elizabeth (Irvin) Probst of Ulysses, Pa., Carol Shiley of Hummelstown, Pa. and Harriet "Babe" (Eugene) Nuss of S. Renovo. Also surviving are grandchildren: Janet, Bobbi Jo, Brian, Cyndy Lou, and Emily and 7 great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband: Harry A. Fuhrer in 1987 and 3 brothers: Russell, Albert, and Jack. Funeral services will be held at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009 at 3:00 P.M. with Pastor Dee Calhoun officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Private interment will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Park. Memorials are requested to Bucktail Medical Center Activity Fund or Zion Lutheran Church. Maxwell Funeral Home of Renovo is in charge of the arrangements.
