YORK- Ruth C. (Hamme) Strausbaugh, 101, passed away Friday, May 15, 2009 at Manor Care Health Services North. She was the wife to the late Herman F. Strausbaugh to whom she shared 60 years of marriage. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10AM Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 950 W. Market St., York with the Rev. Fr. Thomas R. Hoke officiating. A viewing will be held from 9-10AM Wednesday at the Church. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Strausbaugh was born on April 6, 1908 in Emigsville to the late Charles Hamme and Mary Ellen (Fahringer) Hamme Smith. A loving and caring homemaker, she had been previously employed at Beck's Dairy. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of York. She was also a member at Rose Sunshine Club, AARP of York W. Chapter, and Metropolitan Senior Citizens Club. Mrs. Strausbaugh is survived by eight nieces, Donna Sheeley of York, Patricia Baublitz of New York City, NY, Linda Resch of Camphill, Marilyn Berstler of Mechanicsburg, Cherlene Lewis of Reading, PA Clara Sidesinger, Deloris Roberts, and Mary Smith all of York; six nephews, Ronald Sheeley, Donald Hamme, Lester Smith, Phillip Smith, Floyd Heltebridle all of York, and Steve Strausbaugh of Hanover. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Delores Sheeley, Geraldine Smith, and Pauline Baublitz; and four brothers, William and Lester Smith, and Orville and Charles Hamme. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 950 W. Market St., York, PA 17401.
