Ruth (Beutenmuller) Huff

Ruth Beutenmuller Huff, loving wife, mother of two, grandmother of five, passed away late Tuesday December 2, 2014 after a three month battle with Glioblastoma. Ruth grew up an avid fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers in Port Washington, NY- rarely missing a game and always taking diligent notes of the plays. She was raised under the loving care of her Mother Ruth Neary, Aunt Margaret Neary, Father William Beutenmuller and Stepmother Grace Salt Beutenmuller and her Grandparents Neary. She graduated from Schreiber High School in Port Washington in 1958 and went on to attend American University in Washington DC. Rooming in Alexandria, VA she met and married her husband of 52 years, Weston Warren Huff, in 1962. They had two children, Weston Warren Huff Jr and Jennifer Huff Robinson. The young family moved and settled in York, PA in 1969. After getting her drivers license a little later in life, she became more involved with her community through her church. Ruth and Warren’s son married Tammy Foye Huff of York, PA and their daughter married Tony Paul Robinson of New Oxford, PA. In time, Ruth happily became a grandmother to Shawn and Lindsay Huff of Merrimac MA, Toni, Andrew and Sophia Robinson of Hanover PA. Genealogy was very important to Ruth. She would often piece together the engaging lives of her ancestors and write short narrative pieces for her family to read. Her closeness to family stretched beyond the immediate- and into the family trees of generations before her time. According to her- everything is connected. Ruth said recently she had fulfilled her dream, although not anything new or monumental but no less significant: a healthy marriage, a warm home and to see her children and grandchildren grow to appreciate arts and community involvement. Her most cherished times were after long days in her gardens, preparing elegant but uncomplicated fresh food, then sitting at the table to enjoy the meal with her husband. It was Ruth’s wishes that there be no services and her ashes remain with St John’s Episcopal Church at the convenience of her immediate family. In lieu of flowers, Ruth would have appreciated offerings to Saint John’s Episcopal Church or to your own church. Ruth believed the power of volunteering and helping those in the community was the best way to show your love for the people and things around you. Through her work and love, those that knew her are better people and she will be missed dearly.
