Ruth B. Jacobsen, 73, of 310 Parkway, Schuylkill Haven, passed away Thursday at the Pottsville Hospital. Born in Bangor, Maine, on July 14, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Lucille E. Fisher. She was a member of the First Universalist Church, Bangor Maine. She was a 1952 graduate of Bangor High School and also a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, where she was named to two honor societies. She taught English at Carthage Central High School, Carthage, NY for over 20 years. She also served as dean of students for several years prior to retirement. She was the first teacher of the year in 1984 for the Carthage Central School District. While teaching, she was also an advisor for the award winning literary mazagine "Butterfly" and the school newspaper, the "Clarion". She was also the forensics club advisor. In 1976, she served as an interim writer for the State Education Departments Basic Competency test. In her retirement, she spent hours playing bridge, reading, participating in the Red Hat society and she continued to enrich the lives of those around her. Surviving her are: a daughter, Joy and her husband Mark Petrich, Schuylkill Haven; their children, Jennifer, of Schuylkill Haven, SPC Edward Petrich, stationed at Ft. Carson, CO, and SGT Jonathan Petrich, stationed at Ft. Drum, NY; a son, Richard and his wife Mikyong Jacobsen, of Watertown, NY; their children, Christopher, Andrew, Tina, Nina and Tommy Jacobsen; a sister Jeanette and her husband Donald Watts, of Medford, Mass; several nieces and nephews; and receiving her last wish she was surrounded by her great grandson Ryan Matthew, son of Jennifer and Matthew Daub. A memorial service will be held at Bassout Lundy Funeral Home, Inc. Carthage NY, on Monday August 20th at 6:30 PM, with a party to immediately follow at Keddy's in West Carthage, come to remember Mrs. J. The Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc. 6th & W.
