DOVER - Russell L. Shive, II, 61, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Manor Care - Dallastown. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Dover Twp. Fire Department, 3700 Davidsburg Road, Dover. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York is in charge of arrangements. Born October 6, 1948 in West York, he was the son of the late Russell L. and Margaret (Gentzler) Shive. He was a 1966 graduate of Dover Area High School. Mr. Shive worked as a dispatcher for Harrisburg International Airport and was an avid Penn State fan. He was one of the first youth football coaches for Tri Town Boys Club and coached both men and women's softball in the York area. Russell served as a former Chief and President of the Dover Township Volunteer Fire Department. Russ has served Dover Twp. for 41 years and held almost every position in the Department. He was highly respected as a mentor for many of the members of the Department. Mr. Shive is survived by a brother, Michael L. and wife Maureen Shive of York; a sister in law, Wilma Dean Gentzler of San Antonio, TX; a niece, Tonja Kramer of San Antonio, TX; a nephew, Jonathan Tome of Dover; and seven great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gary L. Gentzler. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dover Twp. Fire Dept., 3700-1 Davidsburg Rd., Dover, PA 17315 or to York Cancer Patient Help Fund, 25 Monument Rd., Suite 194, York, PA 17403.
