Russell J. Wirnsberger

LEWISBURG - Russell J. Wirnsberger, 79, died Sunday, July 23, 2017 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg. He was born on August 31, 1937 in Milwaukee, WI and was the son of the late Joseph E. and Shirley (Paska) Wirnsberger. On March 18, 1961 Russell married the former Rita M. (Jazwiecki), who survives, and they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this year. Russell was a graduate of the Rufus King High School, Milwaukee, WI Class of 1955. He went on and obtained his bachelor’s degree from UW – LaCrosse Class of 1959. After several years Russell finally earned his master’s in administration from U.W. – Milwaukee Class of 1979. Russell worked as a teacher/coach and retired from Greer, S.C. in 1990. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Greer, SC, a Mason as a Grand Master and was involved with the fellowship of Christian athletes. Russell enjoyed golfing, reading, collecting books, model railroading and was a avid Wisconsin sports fan especially the Packers. In addition to his wife, Rita Russell is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; John R. and Jeri Wirnsberger of Panama City, FL, David E. and Sharon Wirnsberger of Taylors, SC and Daniel J. and Dana Wirnsberger of Lewisburg, four daughters and two sons-in-law; Deborah A. Blancarte of Overland Park, KS, Susan F. and James Earle of Montclair, NJ, Mary S. Dartez of Lafayette, LA and Rebecca J. and Timothy Hoch of Charlotte, NC., 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to his parents Russell was preceded in death by one brother; Thomas E. Wirnsberger. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rita M. Wirnsberger at 340 JPM Road, Apt 108, Lewisburg, PA 17837 to help offset funeral costs. Services for Russell will be held privately at the convenience to the family at a later date. Arrangements for Russell are being handled by Dale Ranck Cremation & Funeral Care, 125 N. Front Street, Milton.
