Russell E. Shearer

JACOBUS – Russell E. Shearer, 86, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Emma J. (Flinchbaugh) Shearer with whom he was married for 65 years on April 24, 2013. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 12, 2013 at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, 250 Chestnut Hill Road, York with his pastor, The Rev. Kevin L. Becker officiating. Full military honors will be presented by Dallastown American Legion Honor Guard. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 AM at the entrance of the cemetery. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Born June 12, 1927 in Jacobus a son of the late Fred S. and Ruth I. (Hildebrand) Shearer, he retired from York Bituminous Paving. Mr. Shearer was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Dallastown American Legion, Yankee A.A., Jacobus and Loganville Fire Companies, and in his younger years had played in five different baseball leagues throughout York Co. He enjoyed golfing, baseball, taking long drives with his wife to go out to eat, and loved hosting clambakes for his family and friends. He was a US Army veteran of WWII. In addition to his wife, Mr. Shearer is survived by a son, Russell E. Shearer, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Jacobus; two daughters, Trudy S. and husband Steve Myers of Jacobus and Wanda J. and husband Mike Elliott of Jacobus; five grandchildren, Evette and husband Dan Owens, Coby and husband Walt Bloss, Sara Minot, Cortney and husband Chad Herman, and Tori Shearer; six great grandchildren, Laken, Laira, Lilah, Austin, Jered, and Landry; two brothers, Jack Shearer of York and Jerry Shearer of Jacobus; four sisters, Dorcas Smith, Helen Snyder, Norma Jean Ayres, and Joann Smith all of York; and numerous nieces and nephews.
