Russell E. Hummel, Jr.

POTTSVILLE - Russell E. Hummel, Jr., 73, of Pottsville, died Sunday night at the Schuylkill Medical Center, South Jackson, Pottsville. Born in Cressona on November 28, 1937, he was a son of the late Russell and Catherine Firestine Hummel. He was formerly employed by Domino’s and worked at the A-Plus. Russell was an avid bowler, holding a 200 average for most of his career. He had numerous titles in various leagues and tournaments. He bowled numerous 700 series and a high series of 793 and had 10 perfect games. In 1977 he won the Berks County Amateur Tournament. He was a member of the Pottsville and Reading Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Russell loved the Philadelphia Phillies. His favorite song was “The Dance” by Garth Brooks. Russell will be sadly missed by his companion of 24 years, Mary Waitkaitis, Pottsville, his dogs Tidbit, Buddy and Alivia. He is also survived by a son, Russell Hummel, III; four daughters, Anna Hummel, Cathy Sausser, Michele Hummel and Jennifer Hummel; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had a special place in his heart for his niece Kaela Burt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a sister, Mildred Boyer and a brother Albert “Red” Hummel. There will be no services. Arrangements are being handled by the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & W. Market St., Pottsville.
