YORK- Roy J. Winter, 87, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 at York Hospital. Roy was born on April 6, 1924, in York, a son of the late Roy J. and Grace (Armpriester) Winter. He is survived by his sister, Edith Winter Naylor; his companion of many years, Phyllis Haines; nephews, Richard P. March II and his wife, Phyllis of York, Michael J. March and his wife, Deborah of York; niece Gail Farcht of Cookville, TN; and former wife, Ruth Winter March of York. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ethel Winter Farcht and Ruth Winter March. Roy graduated from North York High School, class of 1943. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having been stationed in England for the duration of the war. He graduated from Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia and served his apprenticeship with Strack and Strine Funeral Home of York. He was also involved in sales with several automobile businesses including one of his own. In earlier years, Roy was very active in boating and was a life member of the Susquehanna Yacht Club. He was also a member of the Shiloh American Legion and the former Dutch Club. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Prospect Hill Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, make contributions in honor of Roy to the World War II veterans organization of your choice.
