Rowena M. Ward

Troy, PA Rowena M. Ward, Age 84 of Troy, PA passed away Saturday, March 8, 2009 at the Bradford County Manor, West Burlington, PA. with her loving family by her side. Rowena was born February 8, 1925 in Troy, PA daughter of the late Max and Rebecca (McKean) Mingos. She graduated from Troy High School and was married to the late Robert L. Ward who died in 1984. Her memberships included East Troy United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Charter Member of the Troy VFW Auxiliary #8675, Bradford County Old Timers Association, Troy Farm Museum, Towanda Historical Society, Genealogy Group of Troy, and was one of the organizers and builders of "The Old Church" of Burlington. Rowena could always been seen on the float that she made in many parades in the Troy and surrounding area. She was at many events in the area she was affectionately known as "The Butter Lady" and enjoyed churning homemade butter and making maple syrup for family and friends. Rowena loved helping family, friends and anyone in the community that need it. She enjoyed many visits to the cabin her father had built on the family farm. Survivors include her daughters, Gayle and Robert Finogle of Troy, PA, Gloria Gates of Alba, PA, Roxanne and Lou Atkinson of Troy, PA, Rhonda and Mike Frisbie of Morris Run, PA, eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her parents, husband Robert L. Ward and great-granddaughter Angel Atkinson predeceased Rowena. Family and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. Her service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 8 PM with Reverend Chris Nauta officiating. Interment will be in Hilton Cemetery, West Burlington, PA.
