YORK Roscoe W. Forbes, 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November 5, 2010 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mildred M. (Moffitt) Forbes. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with his pastor, The Rev. Paul Purkey officiating and his grandson, Pastor Benjamin Forbes assisting with the funeral service. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 PM Tuesday and 10-11:00 AM Wednesday prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born January 24, 1922 in Kingsport, TN a son of the late Charles and Mary A. (Murray) Forbes, he was a retired welder with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union working at Glatfelter Paper Mill for most of his career. Mr. Forbes was a charter member of Seven Valleys Baptist Church where he showed great dedication while serving as a deacon for 50 years. Roscoe endeared people with his quick wit and great sense of humor. He enjoyed working in his vegetable and fruit gardens and was quite a handyman. Mr. Forbes was a US Army veteran of WWII where he earned numerous medals including three bronze stars. Mr. Forbes is survived by two sons, Bill and wife Sue Forbes of Stewartstown and Jerry and wife Teresa Forbes of Towanda; two daughters, Carol and husband Phil Druck of Sabinsville and Deborah Forbes of York; 11 grandchildren, Amy Forbes, Kerri Millburne, Abby Williams, Stacey Forbes, Sam Forbes, Ben Forbes, Amber Forbes, Joe Druck, Jennifer Nuss, Christa Dahlem, and Tyler Stough; 2 step-grandchildren, Scott Stevens and Marci Almes; 22 great grandchildren; two brothers, John C. Forbes of York New Salem and Frank Forbes of Dover; three sisters, Irene Bare of New Freedom, Betty Deveney of Florida, and Rosie McDaniels of York. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kiersten Forbes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seven Valleys Baptist Church, 1793 Valley Rd., Seven Valleys, PA 17360 or to Lantern on the Hill at www.lanternonthehill.com
