RED LION — Ronald D. Russell, 83, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Carol J. (Kochenour) Russell to whom he had been married for 53 years.

Born July 9, 1941, in Huntingdon, PA, he was the son of the late Estella (Querry) Russell and Rubin Russell. After graduating high school, Mr. Russell went to work at McCrory Stores, moving to York, PA when the company relocated their warehouse.

Ronnie was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country from 1966 – 1968. Stationed in Germany, he proudly used his prior knowledge and skills in his duty operating a munitions warehouse. After leaving active duty, Ronnie remained in service to his country from 1969-1972 in the US Army Reserve. He returned to employment at McCrory Distribution Center where he worked in Receiving and was promoted to Inventory Manager of the home warehouse and seven relay stations. He retired from McCrory when they closed their York location.

Outside of work, he was a member of the St. John’s UCC. Ronnie had a strong relationship with the outdoors, enjoying flowers, gardening, and tending his lawn. He also satisfied his taste for adventure through hunting and riding his motorcycle. He and his wife loved spending time at various beaches, taking long drives—sometimes to undetermined destinations—and just being together.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by three sisters-in-law; Gwen Walters, Bonnie Wilmer (Bob), Deb McCune (Tom), and a brother-in-law; Ken Kochenour (Candice). Ronnie is also survived by many nieces and nephews – including greats and great-greats – all of which he adored and will always receive his never-ending love and pride. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Chester “Leroy” Russell and Fred Russell.
