York—Ronald L. Trimmer, 74, died Friday, December 23, 2011 at Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Shirley M. (Workinger) Trimmer to whom he was married for 10 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 AM, Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market Street, York, with his pastor the Rev. Kevin T. Shively officiating. Viewings will be held from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York, and from 9-11 AM, Wednesday, at the church. Burial will be held in Suburban Memorial Gardens. Born April 1, 1937 in West York, he was a son of the late Russel C. Trimmer Sr., and Irene G. (Eppley) Trimmer. He graduated from West York High School in 1955 and attended York Junior College. In 1959 he graduated from Millersville Teachers College and later earned his Master’s degree in Administration from Western Maryland College. Employed with the York City School District for 34 years, he worked 11 years as a history teacher and 23 years in school administration, before retiring as Principal of Hannah Penn Middle School. After his retirement he also taught at York College. He was a member of the National Education Assoc., Penna. State Education Assoc., and York County Education Assoc. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, where he was a Sunday school superintendent, taught Sunday school and played on the softball team. He was extremely active in local youth sports, as a PIAA basketball official for 35 years, Director/Coach for York Baseball for Boys, CBUA, umpired Little League Baseball, Head basketball Coach at Penn State-York and also coached Jr. High basketball at Edgar Fahs Smith. In addition, he was also an avid baseball fan, who regularly attended York Revolution games. He loved Penn State Football and North Carolina Tar Heels Basketball. He was active in social clubs, including, Viking Athletic Assoc., Hawks Club and Girard Club. Mr. Trimmer is survived by one son, Marty L. Trimmer and his wife, Cathy of York, one daughter, Kathy L. Gable and her husband, Kevin, five grandchildren, Kyle and Kory Gable and Laura, Matthew and Nathan Trimmer all of York, one step-son, Emmett Mann of York, one brother, Russel C. Trimmer Jr., of Mechanicsburg, his dog, Molly and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Peggy (Dietz) Trimmer, step-brother, Donald Trimmer and nephew, John F. Mann III. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market Street, York, Pa 17404.
