Ronald H. Provard

YORK- Ronald H. Provard, 84, passed away Friday, December 15, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Alice M. (Shade) Provard. The couple celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on August 23, 2017. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 11 am on January 6, 2018 at Grace United Church of Christ, 225 N. Hartley Street in York, with a visitation from 10-11 a.m. The Reverend Robert Brown and The Reverend Thomas W. Caruso will be officiating at the service. York County Veterans Honor Guard will provide a flag folding at the start of the service. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is in charge of the arrangements. Ronald was born in Waynesboro on March 23, 1933, the son of the late Wrennis and Anna (Heffner) Provard. He retired in 1997 from York Suburban School District where he was Assistant to the Superintendant and a Business Manager. Ronald was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, where he served as a treasurer and a deacon. He attended Shippensburg University, where he earned his BS and graduated from Temple University, where he earned his MA. He was the co-founder of York Educational Federal Credit Union. He was secretary to the board at York Suburban and served on the board of the American Red Cross. He was an active supporter and co-founder of York Suburban Dollars for Scholars, as well as supporting the Salvation Army and various other local charities. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He received the following medals, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal. Along with his wife Alice, Ronald leaves a brother, Larry Provard of Waynesboro and nieces and nephews.
