RED LION - Ronald E. Smeltzer, 68, passed away, Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Donna M. (Thompson) Smeltzer to whom he was married for 48 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, August 30, 2008 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 45 First Avenue, Red Lion with his pastor, The Rev. Dr. Charles W. Salisbury officiating. A viewing will be held from 6-8:00 PM Friday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with Masonic Rites provided by Red Lion Masonic Lodge at 7:30 PM Friday evening. There will also be a viewing held from 12-1:00 PM Saturday at the Church. Burial will be in Red Lion Cemetery. Born March 7, 1940 in Red Lion a son of the late Dallas D. and Nellie V. (Stein) Smeltzer, he was a 1959 graduate of Red Lion High School and had attended Penn State University. Mr. Smeltzer retired from Met-Ed in 1996 after 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul's U.M. Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, Administration Board, and as a usher captain; and was also a member of Met Ed Retirees Assoc., Viking Athletic Club, Hawks Gunning Club; Red Lion Ambulance Club, where he also served as an EMT; and served on Red Lion School Board for eight years. His Masonic affiliations include; Past Master of Red Lion Masonic Lodge 649 F& AM, and was active in the Red Lion Scottish Rite and Harrisburg Consistory. Mr. Smeltzer was a life member of Red Lion BPO Elks 1592, 13th Ward Political Club, and Red Lion Leo Fire Co. He also served on the Red Lion Borough Planning Commission, Zoning Board, and Municipal Authority. In addition to his wife Donna, Mr. Smeltzer is survived by a daughter, Debra L. and husband Joe Grove of Brogue; two sons, Todd L. and wife Debra A. Smeltzer of Red Lion and David A. and wife Anita Smeltzer of Windsor; seven grandchildren; two step grandchildren; a great grandson; and two brothers, G. LeRoy Smeltzer of Mt. Wolf and Rev. Richard H. Smeltzer of Dover. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's U. M. Church, 45 First Ave., Red Lion, PA 17356.
