YORK - Ronald E. Gross, 83, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Manor Care Health Services - South in York. He was a resident at The Haven at Springwood. He was the husband of the late Shirley I. (Taylor) Gross. The couple celebrated 57 years of marriage prior to Shirley’s passing in 2010. A graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Mt. Rose Cemetery, 1502 Mt. Rose Ave., York, with full military detail provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of arrangements. Born August 20, 1932 in York, Ronald was the son of the late Russell W. Gross and Estella G. (Coble) Reigle. He worked as a foreman for Thonet Industries for 32 years and most recently as an assembler for Gichner Shelter Systems until his retirement. Ron was a former member of the Viking Athletic Association. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and especially flounder fishing. Ron had a love for hockey, the beach and ice cream. Mr. Gross served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Gross is survived by a son, Steven M. Gross and his wife Barb of Spring Grove; four daughters, Susan M. Smith and her husband Zane of Red Lion, Debra L. Williams and her husband Doug of Laurel, MD, Lisa A. Welsh of York, and Jennifer L. Leicht and her husband Daniel, Jr. of Dover; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his wife and parents, Ronald was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie, Jr. and a granddaughter, Lauren (Gross) Morris. Memorial contributions may be made to The Parkinson Council, 111 Presidential Blvd., #114, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 or to the Disabled American Veterans, 4219 East Trindle Rd., Camp Hill, PA 17011. The family would like to extend their appreciation to The Haven at Springwood for the care and compassion given to Ron while he was a resident there.
