NEW COLUMBIA - Roland H. Carl, Jr., 68, died on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Roland was born on August 25, 1940 in Reading, and was a son of the late Roland H. and Pearl (West) Carl, Sr. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Germany as a paramedic. On June 29, 1963, he married the former Barbara L. (Parker) who survives. He was a former employee of West Co. for over 30 years, Shop Vac for 2 years and Ritz Craft for 2 years. He was a former member of the Jamboree Club and a lifetime member of Bass Masters. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, camping and gardening. In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by one son; Michael L. Carl of Mifflinburg, four daughters and two sons-in-law; Angela J. and Edward Donlin of Mifflinburg, Elizabeth S. and David Schleig of West Milton, Rebecca A. Kurtz of Lewisburg and Patty E. Hoey and her fianc裬 Elmer Howell of Mifflinburg, 15 grandchildren; two brothers; Bart Cianciola of California and Richard Carl of Reading and one sister; Lois Moyer of Warrensville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Harvey West, Spencer Carl and Paul Cianciola. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St., Milton, PA 17847. Burial will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park. The Reverend Paula M. Gustafson will officiate the services. There will be a public viewing at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, National Headquarters, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.
