YORK- Roland E. Leight, 90, died Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Manor Care Health Services-Kingston Court in York. He was the husband of the late Arlene M. (Schrum) Leight. Roland was born April 3, 1921, in Monkton, MD, son of the late Elmer G. Leight and Anna (Neuhauser) Leight. Roland was a US Army Veteran of WWII serving with the Tenth Armored (TIGER) Division’s Twentieth Battalion in the European Theater and Battle of the Bulge. He received the Bronze Star for Meritorious service. Roland retired from Caterpillar Corporation and Amerada Hess Corporation in York. He was a member of the Zion’s View Lion’s Club. He is survived by a daughter, Joyce Troxell and her husband Jim, and a son, Rick, both of York; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a brother, Ralph Leight of Dallastown; plus many nieces and nephews. There will be a private viewing for the family. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Mount Rose Cemetery in York. Certified Celebrant Betty Frey will be officiating at the service. A flag folding will be provided by York County Veteran’s Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd in York is in charge of the arrangements.
