Roger M. Allison

LEWISBURG - Roger M. Allsion, 77, roared out of this world on his favorite motorcycle for his final iron butt ride on Thursday, October 19, 2017. Packed in his saddlebags were some of his favorite things: Pepsi, a handy knife, binoculars for bird watching, assorted magazines & books, gadgets, tools, leather work gloves, Ziploc bags, cherry pie, trident gum, and a dog or two. Growing up in the wilds of the Nevada deserts and mountains, he gained immense strength, independence and appreciation for the natural world. Don’t be fooled, he had a very playful side, even during his four years in the Air Force, where his practical jokes should have gotten him into trouble. How did that note get in the safe? He was also a bit impetuous. When he saw something he liked, he had to have it and that’s how he took on a wife, Barbara, along with her young daughter, Steva, after only two weeks of dating. A better father than could be imagined, he dove right in. Who knew he would patiently let his hair be styled, go ice skating & make up wonderful stories for his newly adopted little girl. His new family soon moved from the beaches of Southern California to rural Oklahoma for him to manage the first computerized Air Products plant. Yeehaw. Life changed for the desert rat. Enter 15 acres with critters to take care of, antique tractors to restore and weather changes that triggered the AP plant alarms to go off at the most inopportune times, Roger and his wife Barbara retired to Lewisburg to be near their daughter, Steva Stowell-Hardcastle. He quickly became involved with local Audubon, Rotary, the Street of Shops gang and the public library books sales. Roger’s cheery, generous & kind disposition never left him even as his health declined leaving him in chronic, disabling pain. So, here’s to you, Roger M. Allison, may you ride into the desert sunset knowing you have made the world a better place. Zoom, zoom.
