Roel Z. Hinojosa

YORK- Roel Zaragosa Hinojosa, 50, passed away Sunday, August 15th at his home after a short, hard fought battle against multiple illnesses. Roel was the husband of Amanda Hinojosa, and they would have celebrated their 3rd wedding anniversary on August 18th. Roel was born to the late Federico Hinojosa and late Amelia (Saenz) Hinojosa on October 24, 1970. Roel’s life reads like one of the epic comic book series he enjoyed, complete with twists, turns, romance, and heartbreak. Origin: Roel was born in Orange County, California, raised in Riverside, CA and San Antonio, TX and had many adventures with his brother Adam, cousins and many friends. He graduated from Norte Vista High School in 1988. The most rewarding episodes followed. Those were the birth of each of his children. Naazir Hinojosa and his fiancé Priscilla Medrano, both from San Antonio, who are expecting Roel’s second grandson in December; Marissa Hinojosa of San Antonio, TX; Anthony Hinojosa and his fiancé Nicole Jones and their son Samuel Hinojosa of Baltimore, MD; Kimberly Hinojosa and her fiancé Andrew Brown of York, PA; Christopher Hinojosa of York, Pa; Nickolas Hinojosa of San Antonio, TX and Danielle Hinojosa (stillborn). Roel had many superpowers including but not limited to being able to start a conversation with anyone and embarrassing his kids with terrible jokes and being Roman Catholic with a strong faith in God. Some equipment that Roel had in his stockpile were an entire lair of action figures, Star Wars memorabilia, comic books, and his bionic leg. Even superheros have to earn a living. Roel held many jobs in his lifetime, but he finally had landed on the one that brought him the most joy; a school bus driver for special needs children for Durham School Services in Baltimore County. Even in the final issues of Roel's story, there were many adventures, including finding the love of his life, best friend and soulmate, Mandy of York, PA. All of their family and friends enjoyed watching their love story unfold and the battles they overcame as a duo. Roel faced many obstacles throughout his story, but the love he had for his children never waned. He liked the Dark Side, but in practice he became a true hero, inspiring many with his fortitude, and heart. In addition to his wife and children, Roel is survived by his brother Adam Hinojosa, his sister-in-law Cheryl and niece Savannah of Riverside, CA; many cousins, family and friends. The family will be hosting a visitation followed by a short memorial at 2 pm on Saturday, August 28, 2021, in the gymnasium of Praise Community Church, 705 S Ogontz St, York, PA.
