JACOBUS- Rodger E. Darr, 87, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2009 at his residence. He was the husband of M. Elaine (Arnold) Darr to whom he shared 62 years of marriage on February 28. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Darr will be held at 11:00AM Friday, April 17, 2009 at Salem United Church of Christ, 24 Franklin St., Jacobus with his pastor The Reverend Fred A. Walthour officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard prior to the start of the service at the church. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00AM at the church. Burial will be private. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Darr was born on January 6, 1922 in Springfield Twp., a son to the late William G. and Ida E. (Ferree) Darr. He retired from Caterpillar in 1985. He had very good knowledge of basically everything and enjoyed tinkering and was a handyman. Mr. Darr was a Navy Veteran having served in WWII on the S.S. Tolman as a Water Tender. Mr. Darr is survived by a son, The Rev. Thomas E. and his wife Elizabeth A. Darr of McKnightstown; a daughter, Patti E. and her husband Terry L. Hullmann of Springfield Twp.; four grandchildren, Lauren, Luke, Kyle, and Benjamin; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Bob and Dallas Darr both of York; and a sister Henrietta Clippinger. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Merrill, Ray, and Leroy Darr and two sisters, Ethel and Betty. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403 or to Salem United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 24 Franklin Street, Jacobus, PA 17407.
