Roberta M. Sumoski

POTTSVILLE- Roberta M. Sumoski, 80, of Pottsville, passed away Wednesday morning at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville. Born in Tucker Hill, Schuylkill County, on May 13, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Alice Wolfe Shoener. Roberta was a 1950 graduate of Pottsville High School. Years ago she worked as a crossing guard at 7th St. & Mount Hope Avenue, for over 15 years, she worked at the former Messina’s Sub Shop, for over 15 years and was Attorney Donald Dolbin’s first Secretary, all of Pottsville. Roberta was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville. Family was a very important part of Roberta’s life. In addition to Roberta’s parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Anna Schappell and her brother, John Schoener. Roberta is survived by her husband of 58 years, Leonard J. Sumoski; herfour daughters, Denise Miller, wife of David, of Mechanicsville, Donna Webb, wife of Robert, of Bradenton, FL, Atty. Diane Sumoski, of Dallas, TX and Doreen Hancock, wife of Glenn, of Lake Wynonah; her son, David Sumoski, husband of Jennifer, of Collierville, TN; her six grandchildren, Brian Miller, husband of Jill, Lance Corporal Marc Jones, Dylan Rasbridge and Alexander, David and Rachel Sumoski; her brother, Earl “Tut” Shoener, of Pottsville; her sister, Mary Stanchick, wife of John, of Minersville; several nieces and nephews, including her niece, Suzanne Rich, who was like a daughter to Roberta. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3rd and West Arch Streets, Pottsville. Reverend Harold L. Hand, will officiate. Family and friends may call on Friday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Saturday morning from 9:30 until time of the service at the church.
