YORK - Robert R. Lau, 86, died Sunday, November 16, 2008 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Doris I. (Sterner) Lau and the companion of Garnette H. Hughes with whom he spent 11 years. A Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with The Rev. John Harman officiating. A viewing will be held 9-10:00 AM, Wednesday at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Rose Cemetery with full military rites provided for by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Lau was born August 24, 1922, in York, a son of the late Edward and Sadie V. (Smith) Lau. He was a 1941 graduate of William Penn Senior High School, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. Mr. Lau was a former employee of Bluebird Textile until his retirement. He was an avid sports fan and took pleasure in watching horse racing. Mr. Lau enjoyed spending time with his friends and family most of all. In addition to his companion, Mr. Lau is survived by a daughter; Barbara A. Deitz and husband Lonnie J. of W. Manchester Twp.; two step-daughters, Karen L. Quiqley of York, and Katherine A. Snyder of York; three step-sons, Mark L. Bramble and wife Suszanne of V.A., Jeffrey N. Bramble and wife Crystal of Lewisberry, and James F. Hughes of York; two granddaughters, Michelle M. and Christine A. Deitz both of York; eight step-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Ray E. Lau; two brothers; and a sister. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Patient Help Fund, York Health Foundation, 45 Monument Rd. Ste. 200, York, PA, 17403.
