Robert N. Kendig

YORK- Robert N. Kendig, 95, formerly of Lancaster and Florida, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York. He was the husband of the late Betty June (Minder) Kendig. The couple had celebrated 55 years of marriage when she passed away in 2002. Robert was a resident at Normandie Ridge since 2014. Admitted to UPMC Memorial on Jan 31, he succumbed to COVID-19 2 days later. Mr. Kendig was born in Salunga on November 5, 1925, the son of the late Benjamin and Susan (Nissley) Kendig. He was a Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer. He designed a crane system used for loading and unloading ships, for which he was the patent holder. He spent his career designing material handling systems for a variety of industries. Mr. Kendig served in the US Army Air Corps, prior to going to university. He then received his Mechanical Engineering Degree from Lehigh University, where he enrolled in the ROTC program and then served as a Second Lieutenant in the US Air Force in the Korean war. He also served as a leader in Boy Scouting and Junior Achievement programs. Mr. Kendig leaves a son, Stuart Kendig and his wife Diane of York; three grandchildren, Michael (Sarah) Kendig, Lisa (Daniel) Richardville, and Elizabeth (Malcolm) Rosario; and five great grandchildren, Everett, Deacon, Nolan, Jude, and Ansley. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael (Lynne) Kendig. A private graveside service will be held in Salunga Mennonite Cemetery in Landisville.
