Robert L. Shelly

YORK -Robert L. "Bus" Shelly, 85, passed away Thursday, April 8, 2010 from a fatal heart attack while driving his vehicle that lead to a car accident. He was the loving husband of Rita V. (Jordan) Shelly to whom he was married to for 40 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York, with Certified Celebrant, Betty Frey officiating. Viewings will be held 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday and 9:30-10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Mr. Shelly was born February 24, 1925 in North York, a son of the late Edward M. and Daisy M. (Bahn) Shelly. He was a former York City police officer, dedicating his life to his city for 28 years until his retirement in 1978. He was also employed with various trucking companies throughout the years, and eventually retired from Consolidated Freightways. His final employment was with Griffith-Strickler-Lerman as a courier. Mr. Shelly was known for his strong work ethics, and his friendly personality. In addition to his wife, Mr. Shelly is survived by a daughter, Daisybelle Markley; a stepson, Robert J. Kelly; a stepdaughter, Rebecca J. Kelly; five grandchildren, all of York; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Harry and Phillip Shelly; and four sisters, Esther Barton, Anna Landis, Eleanor Weinstein, and Norma J. Wertz.
