Robert L. "Bob" Rote

HOWARD - Robert L. “Bob” Rote, 80, went to be with the Lord on January 25, 2017 after he was unable to recover from injuries he sustained in a vehicle accident on Friday, January 13th. Bob was born June 29, 1936 in Lock Haven and was a son of the late John V. and Margaret (Streck) Rote. Bob was a wrestler at Lock Haven High School where he graduated in 1955. He worked at Hammermill Paper Co. and built bridges for HRI where he retired. He loved hunting with his sons and fishing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Avis where he sang in the choir and was part of the men's ministry. Bob loved the Lord and loved spreading the Word of God. He was a servant of God and showed it in the hats he wore, the stickers on his cars and the way he lived his life. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Sara (Young) whom he married on December 19, 1982. Together they had a blended family of six children. Bob (Lorna) Rote of Bloomsburg, Brad (Marchal) Rote of McElhattan, Scott (Barbara) Rote of Brigantine, NJ, Diane (Terry) Day of Marsh Creek, Vanessa (Joe) Brickley of Blanchard, and Linnie (Doug) Roeshot of State College. Bob loved being outside. You could see him walking his faithful companion, Maggie, all over Sayers Dam and Ridge Crest. If you wanted to find Bob, all you had to do was look at his favorite fishing hole or at a baseball game. He loved watching the Little Leaguers at the fields near his home or down the road to the Legion field. On Sundays after church, Bob would play Barbie's with his great granddaughter, Emily who insisted that Pap not always be Ken. Bob also believed in keeping family traditions alive. Every fall he would hunt with the boys and make homemade sauerkraut--things he did with his own father and brother-in-law Jack. He wasn't afraid of a little adventure either. Bob would hop on a bus headed for Jersey so he could spend a few days at the beach with his NJ family. In addition to his wife and children, Bob is survived by his sister Linda Walters of Mifflintown and niece Grace Walters. He is blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob left a mark on all of his family and by our faith we know he is in God's hands, but that doesn't mean we don't miss him terribly. The world would be a better place if there were more Bob Rote's in it. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Walnut Street Baptist Church, 201 W. Highland Street, Avis, PA 17721. A public viewing will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the Helt Chapel, 232 Hogan Blvd., Mill Hall, followed by the funeral service at 7:00p.m. with Pastor George Grossman of Walnut Street Baptist Church officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Schenck’s Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
