POTTSVILLE - Robert J. McAnaney, 73, of Pottsville, died Thursday at his home. Born in Shamokin on June 24, 1933, he was a son of the late William J and Naomi Hornberger McAnnaney. He was a graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School. Robert was a veteran, serving in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a former member of St. Patrick's Church. Robert was a member of the Pottsville Joint Veterans Council, the AMVETS and was a life member and past commander of the American Legion Post 67. He was also a member of the Mechanicsville Fish and Game and the Locust Valley Fish and Game. He was also a former trustee for the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Surviving are: a son John McAnaney, of Pine Grove; a daughter, Christine McAnaney, of Minersville; two grandsons, Mark R. McAnaney Jr., and Jeffery M. McAnaney, both of Pottsville; two sisters, Genevieve Schultz, of Ringwood NJ and Ann E. Basden, of Edwardsville, ILL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: a son Mark R. McAnaney Sr., and a brother William D. McAnnaney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 AM in the St. Patrick's Church, Pottsville. Family and friends may call at the Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc, 6th & W. Market St., Pottsville on Monday night from 7-9 PM and Tuesday morning from 9:15 to 10:15. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park, Schuylkill Haven. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Pottsville Joint Veterans Council.
