YORK- Robert E. Doll, Sr., 92, passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at The Haven at Springwood. He was the husband of the late Alfonsa E. “Angie” (Mandracchio) Doll. Following Mr. Doll’s Request, a Celebration of Life Tribute Service will be held at 7:30p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road in York with Certified Celebrant Betty Frey officiating. A viewing will be held from 6-7:30p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Mr. Doll was born on November 13, 1923 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of the late James and Mable (Immel) Doll. After 38 years, he retired as a Turbine Room Operator from Smurfit Stone, the former Schmidt & Ault Paper Company in York. Mr. Doll was a member of Shiloh American Legion Post #791, West York VFW Post # 8951, and served as a past President of United Paper Workers Union, Local 808. He served in the United States Navy during WWII, attaining the rank of M.M. Chief. Mr. Doll is survived by two sons, Daniel R. Doll and wife Theresa of Manchester and Robert E. Doll, Jr. and his wife Sandra of York; three grandchildren, Brian, Cynthia, and Robert III; three great grandchildren; and a sister Sally Ann Zeigler. He will be deeply missed by his family and special friends Mike and Lori Metrick and their children, and his friend in music, Gwen Hanlin. He is preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Lind.
