Robert E. Bowers

Thomasville—Robert E. Bowers, 69, passed away Friday, November 18, 2016 at York Hospital surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Kathleen A. (Loughran) Bowers to whom he was married for 30 years. A Celebration of Life Service will be 7PM, Monday, November 28, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd, York with Keith Schiesser officiating. A viewing will be held from 6-7PM, Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be 2PM, Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born April 22, 1947 in York, he was a son of the late William H. and Julia P. (Zeigler) Bowers. He was employed with Harley-Davidson for 21 years as a welder until his retirement in 2010. A United States Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War, he was also past Vice Commander with the Joint Veterans Council of York. He was a life member of the W. York VFW and a member of the Red Lion and Shiloh American Legion. An avid motorcycle enthusiast, he enjoyed surf fishing with his brother at Assateague Island and camping. In addition to his wife, Mr. Bowers is also survived by two daughters, Amber M. Urey and Barry of Dover and Susie L. Budine and husband, Jonathan of Nutley, NJ; five grandchildren, Brandon, Scott, Emily, Andrew and Gabriella; one brother, Barry L. Bowers and wife, Algean of York; sister-in-law, Beverly Bowers of York and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, William E. Bowers.
