LANCASTER- Robert D. Ort, 77, died Friday, December 19, 2008 at Hospice of Lancaster County in Mt. Joy. He was the husband of Jacqueline F. (Sterner) Ort to whom he was married for 53 years in April 2008. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 23, 2008 in his church, St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 700 Pleasure Rd., Lancaster, with the Rev. Connie Mentzer officiating. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 AM Tuesday and a luncheon will be held immediately following the tribute service all at the Church. Burial will be private. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory , Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Ort was born on November 18, 1931 in York, a son to the late Stuart E. and Janet P. (Lehr) Ort. He worked at RCA in Lancaster for many years before retiring from Burle Industries. Mr. Ort was an active member at his church, an avid Penn State Fan, enjoyed PA history, camping, and hiking. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, specifically with Troop 102 based out of Grandview Methodist Church in Lancaster. He won a District Award and an Appreciation Award from the Boy Scouts in 1982. Mr. Ort was a member of the American Legion and the OGMS retirement reunions. He was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean War. Mr. Ort is survived by a son, David E. and wife Tamara J. Ort of Lancaster; two daughters, Sharon A. and husband Michael H. Schaeffer of Lancaster and Susan M. and husband John Dougherty of Springhill, FL; four grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Andrew DeBlase of Reading, Christopher Schaeffer and Ryan Ort both of Lancaster, and Steven Head of Springhill; one brother Donald G. Ort of Manchester; a sister, Loretta and husband Donald Hamme of York; a mother-in-law, Ruth Sterner of York; a sister-in-law Phyllis Sterner of York; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Kenneth Ort; and two sisters Margaret Wagman and Dorothy Wilson. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604 or St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 700 Pleasure Rd., Lancaster 17603.
