Robert D. Herman

SPRING GROVE- Robert D. Herman, 80, died on Friday, April 12, 2013 at his residence. He was the husband of Rose M. (Topper) Herman. The couple wed on Aug 5, 1950. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, with Pastor Todd Witmer officiating. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday and 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday, both at the funeral home. Born on May 13, 1932 in Spring Grove, he was a son of the late Maurice J. and Anna M. (Zinn) Herman. Robert was a paper maker for over 42 years at P.H. Glatfelter Co. until his retirement and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. Mr. Herman was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. He was also a member of Porters Fire Co., North Codorus Fire Co., Spring Grove Fire Co., McSherrystown Home Association and Spring Grove VFW Post #5265. Robert enjoyed baseball and was an avid Boston Red Sox Fan. Along with his wife, Rose, Mr. Herman is survived by one son, Sam Herman and his wife, Tammy of Spring Grove; two daughters, Jean Mullenax of Glen Burnie and Stephanie Brinton of New Oxford; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Roberta Herman-Potter; two brothers, William J. Herman and Donald Herman; and a sister Helen Zortman.
