Robert D. Dean

POTTSVILLE - Robert D. Dean, 77, of Pottsville, formerly of Lancaster, died Tuesday morning at the Schuylkill Medical Center East Norwegian, Pottsville. Born in Johnstown, PA on January 28, 1933, he was the son of the late Daniel and Agnes Hughes Dean. He graduated for Pottsville High School in 1950. After high school, Robert attended Penn State University. In 1953 he entered the Army, serving during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Alaska as a morse code interceptor. After an honorable discharge, Robert completed his degree in business, graduating from Penn State University in 1956. In 1961 he married the former Mary Petlansky, who preceded him in death. Until retiring, he was employed by Harleysville Insurance as a claims adjuster, working in the Washington DC area. After retiring, he and his wife moved to Lancaster. Robert was a hunter and a fisherman. He truly loved dogs, owning two Australian Sheep Dogs. He still kept dog treats at his home at Providence Place for any visiting dogs to enjoy. In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by a daughter Karen Dean. Surviving Robert are: a sister, Dolores D. and her husband Joe McKenna, Pottsville; two nieces, Anne Blasko, New Hope, and Kate Reber, Pottsville; a nephew, Tom Ruppert, Annapolis, MD; his god daughter and life-long friends, Dr. Brenda Jenkins Seitzinger, Orwigsburg, Katherine Jenkins, Pottsville and Harry Jenkins, Kempton. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday August 23rd at 10:30 AM from the church of Saint Patrick, 4th & Mahantongo St., Pottsville. Interment will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. The Schlitzer Allen Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & W. Market St., Pottsville is handling the arrangements.
