YORK- Robert C. Plymire, 89, passed away at 12:05 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2015 at Lancaster General Hospital. Robert had been residing at Oak Leaf Manor North in Landisville, PA for the last several weeks. He was the husband of the late Mildred I. Plymire. A visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd., York. Robert’s cremated remains will be buried beside his wife in Manchester Lutheran Cemetery with Certified Celebrant Betty Frey officiating and full military honors provided by the York County Veteran’s Honor Guard. Born on November 2, 1926 in York, he was a son of the late John C. and Helen M. (Stine) Plymire. He was employed at the former Naval Ordinance Plant in York and later with the Naval Ships Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg, where he retired in 1983 with over 35 years of service. After retirement, he worked for 22 years at PADE. As a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, Robert served in Europe with the 1265th Combat Engineers from February 1945 to December 1946, when he was honorably discharged. Mr. Plymire was a life member of the VFW Post #2493 in Mt. Wolf, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, York NOP Alumna, Hawks Gunning Club, Vikings Athletic Club and American Legion Post #791. Robert also played golf for many years with the Briarwood AARP Golf Group. Robert is survived by two stepdaughters, Joyce E. Hibshman (Richard) of Lancaster and Judy A. Lynch (Anthony) of Largo, FL; two grandchildren, Mark Hibshman (Caroline) of Reidsville, NC and Eli Lynch (Cappy) of Portland, OR; two cousins, Vern Plymire of Wattsburg and Richard Plymyer of Wesleyville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Patrick Lynch; and his twin brother. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 301 Grant St., Suite 900 (One Oxford Centre), Pittsburgh, PA 15219 or at woundedwarriorproject.org.
