YORK – Robert C. Frisby, Jr., 88, formerly of Shiloh, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Virginia K. (Koller) Frisby to whom he was married for 63 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 8, 2012 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York with his lead pastor, The Rev. Kevin T. Shively and visitation pastor, The Rev. Diane G. Wenthe officiating. A viewing will be held from 7-9:00 PM Wednesday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Glen Rock with full military rites provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born June 4, 1923 in York, a son of the late Leta (Neel) and Robert C. Frisby, Sr., he was a graduate of William Penn High School class of 19M41. Following high school, Mr. Frisby served in the US Army’s 22nd Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division during WWII. This regiment landed on Utah Beach and was engaged in the liberation of Paris and The Battle of Hurtgen Forest. Mr. Frisby was awarded the Silver Star, two Purple Hearts, and received the designation of Distinguished Member of the Regiment by order of the Secretary of the Army. He was a member of West York VFW 8951; Shiloh American Legion 791; Life Member of Military Order of the Purple Heart, where he had served as Commander; National 4th Infantry (IVY) Division Assoc.; Combat Infantrymen’s Assoc.; committee member for the York WWII Memorial; and received the Legion of Honor award from the Four Chaplains Memorial Foundation. As a member of the York Co. Joint Veteran’s Council Mr. Frisby served as Sergeant of Arms and spoke at local high schools about WWII and the holocaust. Through his military service and organizations he maintained many friendships throughout the US. Following his distinguished military service, Mr. Frisby worked at Frisby’s Dry Cleaning and Tailoring in York, and then began his sales career with the following organizations, Yorktowne Paper Mill, Packaging Corp. of America, Servomation LLC, Continental Wire and Cable, and retired from Anaconda-Ericsson, Inc. After his retirement, Mr. Frisby co-founded and operated York Wire and Cable, Inc. until its sale in 1989. He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons, Zeredetha Lodge 451; Tall Cedars of Lebanon; St. Matthew Lutheran Church; and was a former member of York Kiwanis Club and West York Optimist Club. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. Bob was a truly understanding person and accepted people for who they were. In addition to his wife, Mr. Frisby is survived by a son, Robert W. and wife Joanne S. Frisby of York; two daughters, Ginger F. and husband Dan Meisenhelder of York and Christina F. and husband Thomas Anthony of York; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces and a nephew. Mr. Frisby was preceded in death by a daughter, Julia Anena F. Goodman; a grandson, Langon Robert Goodman; a brother, Thomas S. Frisby; and two sisters, Jeanne Neel Davis and Gertrude F. Aulbach. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 839 W. Market St., York, PA 17401 or to a charity of your choice. “Never judge a man until you walk a mile in his moccasins.”
