Robert Bob Nearing

TROY- Robert "Bob" Nearing, 93, of Troy, PA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Towanda Memorial Hospital. Family and friends are welcome to call from 7:00-9:00 PM on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home Inc., 110 West Main Street, Troy, PA. The memorial service to honor Bob's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday July 30, 2008 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 195 Elmira St. Troy, PA, with his pastor, Rev. Mary Kisner officiating. Burial will follow the service in Oak Hill Cemetery. Robert was born on September 12, 1914 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Scott and Nellie (Seeds) Nearing. He was educated in boarding schools in the east and in Germany, and graduated from the Edgewood School in Connecticut in 1934. Bob attended Rutgers University in 1935. He married Jeanne Will on September 24, 1938, sharing 69 years of marriage and raising 4 children. Bob became a farmer in Clinton Corners, NY and in 1949 moved to a farm in West Franklin, PA. He farmed until 1964 when he moved his family to Troy, PA. He started working for the First Bank of Troy as a teller and retired as Vice President in 1979. After retirement he continued to work as an appraiser for the bank. Robert had an immense love of travel, touring many counties in Europe with family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting with his beagles (especially "Bill"). He also loved reading, classical music, gardening, and his community. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Troy, was on the Allen F. Pierce Library board and was a co-founder of The Children's Hour social club. He was devoted to his loving family and friends whom greatly enjoyed his wit and great sense of humor. Robert is predeceased by his mother, father, step mother Helen Nearing, and his brother John Scott. He is survived by his wife Jeanne (Will) Nearing, daughters Jill and husband Dr. Francis Daniel, DVM, of Shenandoah Junction, WV, Patricia and husband Edward Vandyne of Canandaigua, NY son Robert and wife Kelly Nearing of Granville Summit, PA, John Nearing (MaryAnn Perrino) of Barrington, NJ, 10 grandchildren: Dr. Elizabeth Daniel, DVM, Dr. Francis Daniel, III, DVM, Scott Daniel, Randall Whittaker, Kyle Whittaker, Donna Gasper, Jennifer Good, Robert Clint Nearing, Dr. Autumn Nearing, Pharm.D., and Mary Ellen Nearing, 16 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, as well as two nieces; Elka Scott Schumann and Elena Scott Whiteside. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Allen F. Pierce Library, 115 Center St. Troy, PA 16947 or to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 195 Elmira St. Troy, PA 16947.
