Rita M. Chmielewski Gorcenski

Rita M. Chmielewski Gorcenski, 73, of Dupont passed away suddenly Friday morning, September 18, 2009 at home. Born on November 3, 1935, in Dupont she was a daughter of the late Casmer and Mary Roman Chmielewski. She attended St. John's High School, and prior to her retirement she worked in the garment industry. Rita loved being involved with the foster parent program for the last eight years, most recently with the West Pittston CDC. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus, Dupont. Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Gorcenski, August 18, 20009, and her brother, John. Surviving are her son, Joseph Gorcenski, III; daughter, Sheryl Riley and her husband Michael; granddaughter, Amanda Boland, all of Dupont; sister, Theresa Maira and her husband John, Hughestown; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 9:00 AM from Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, 728 Main Street, Avoca, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont. Reverend Joseph Verespy will officiate. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery. Friends may call Monday 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the funeral home.
