CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Richard W. "Dick" Miller, Jr. went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, June 21, 2007. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for three years. Dick was born on September 16, 1944 to Lois Speise Miller and Richard William Miller. He was a graduate of West York High School in York, PA. Dick was employed by Food Lion as Deli Manager in Belmont, NC. He was previously employed in York, PA at Goods Dairy and with Davenports/Roy Rogers. He was manager and District Manager for Roy Rogers for twenty-three years and treasured many friendships from that employment. Dick moved to Charlotte in 1993 to be with his sister and family. There he began his blended family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Miller Spahr; his step-father, Charles Spahr; his father, Richard Miller; brother, Robert "Bob" Miller; his step-father-in-law, Floyd Mason; and beloved dog, Dusty. Dick is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Carolyn; step-mother-in-law, Virgie Mason of Concord, NC; sister, Linda Russell of Charlotte, NC; sons, Bill Miller and his wife, Joyce and their children, Richard and Sean of Damon, TX, Bradley Miller and his wife, Linda and their children, Lacey, Austin and Danny of Dover, PA; daughter, Cindy Birgensmith and her husband, Brice and their children, Brandon, Jared and Alexa of Dover, PA; step-daughter, Cindy Hicks and her husband, Scott and their children, Jordan and Bradley of Marvin, NC; step-son, Dr. Jon Holt and his wife, Dr. Tammy Holt of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister-in-law, Luz Marina Miller; and nieces, Nancy McLendon, Lindy LeBel, and Jimmie Workman and their families. Dick was loved by many friends in York, PA and Charlotte, NC. He was a resident of Sun City Carolina Lakes for five months and a member of Tyvola Church of God. The family would like to thank the nurses and personnel of Presbyterian Hospital, especially all the personnel of Harris Hospice of Presbyterian for the wonderful care during his recent three week illness. The family would also like to thank Dr. James Boyd and all the employees at Oncology Specialty for their care during the last years. A special thanks to Pastor Tim Pack. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Tyvola Church of God. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York. A graveside service will follow the visitation on Tuesday at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tyvola Church of God, 100 Tyvola Rd. West, Charlotte, NC 28217 or to Harris Hospice of Presbyterian Hospital, 200 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204. Harry and Bryant Company in Charlotte, NC and Heffner Funeral Chapel in York, PA are serving the family of Mr. Dick Miller.
