TROY - Richard V. Chappell, Age 87 of Old Mill Lane, Troy, PA passed away Thursday, June 13,2013 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY. Richard was born in Crooked Creek, PA on April 6, 1926 son of the late Milford & Edith (Rumsey) Chappell. He was a graduate of Wellsboro High School and upon graduation entered the US Army Air Force where he served his country from 1944 to 1946 during WWII. He attained the rank of Sergeant in the Army Air Force and was a Radio Mechanic. Richard and the former Carolyn Payne were married on August 30, 1947 and celebrated 65 years of marriage. Family and friends are invited to call from 9 AM to 11 AM on Monday, June 17, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Troy, 579 Canton Street, Troy, PA. A Masonic Service will begin at 11:00 AM followed by his funeral service with the Reverend Garry Zuber officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Sabinsville Cemetery, Sabinsville, PA. Richard was retired from Penelec following 40 years of dedicated service where he worked as a General Line Supervisor. His many memberships included the Troy Baptist Church, Troy American Legion Post #49, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Troy Rotary Club, Canton Moose Lodge, Bradford County Heritage Association, Troy Masonic Lodge, Coudersport Consistory, Wheel Inn, Cory Creek Golf Club, Past President of the Northern Tioga School District and was a founding member of the Clymer Township Fire Department. Richard was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who gave so much to his family and community. He will be missed very much by his family and many friends. Survivors include his loving wife Carolyn Chappell of Troy, daughter, Linda (Alson) Nickerson of Troy, sons, Thomas (Jeanne) Chappell of Coudersport, Steven (Jody) Chappell of Mansfield, grandchildren, Rebecca, Jill, Sarah Jo, Terra Lynn, Zachary, Desirae, great-grandchildren, Madison, Allison, Izabella, Elena, a brother and sister-inlaw,Lewis (Marcia) Chappell of Tioga; sister-in-law, Joann Chappell of Troy and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sister and brother-in-law, Arthur and Alice Brown and a brother Gerald Chappell, predeceased him. Memorials in Richard’s name may be made to the American Cancer Association, Troy Food Bank, First Baptist Church of Troy or to a charity of choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr, Funeral Home,Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA 16947.
