Richard Paul Spangler, Sr,

YORK- Richard Paul Spangler, 93, died Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Manor care Health Services-Kingston Ct. in York. He was the husband of the late Kathleen Virginia (Landis) Spangler. He has resided in South Florida for the past 30 years and moved back to York this last year. Services will be held privately with burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Rd. in York is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Spangler was born in York on September 6, 1919, the son of the late Paul H. and Mary R. (Fraley) Spangler. He was the owner and operator of the former Penn Pressing and Cleaning in York. Mr. Spangler was a member of the East York Lions Club and past president of the Dutch Club and was an avid golfer. He served in the US Marine Corps. during WWII in the European Theater, in Iwo Jima and Okinawa in the 3rd Infantry. Mr. Spangler leaves two sons, Richard Spangler, Jr. and his wife Gail of Pompano Beach, FL and Robert L. Spangler and his wife Jane of York; a daughter, Deborah Tuel of Moorehaven, FL; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; and four sisters, Helen Doman of Collegeville, PA, Doris Leash and her husband Dick of York, Mary Lou San Soucie and her husband Norm of York, and Shirley Warner and her husband Francis of Allentown. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity in Richard’s name.
