POTTSVILLE- Richard P. Snyder, 84, resident of Seton Manor Nursing Home, Orwigsburg, formerly of Pottsville, passed away Tuesday at the nursing home. Born in Pottsville on November 2, 1925, he was a son of the late Charles and Clara Kelly Snyder. He attended Pottsville Catholic high school. He was a Navy veteran having served during World War II. He was a plank owner of the U.S.S. Kenneth D. Bailey. Over the years, he was a welder for the former Aetna Steel, Schuylkill Products and United Metal . He retired from Pottsville Area High School where he worked as a custodian. Richard was a member of Saint Patrick's Church. He was a life member of the American Hose Company, Pottsville. He was an avid bowler in his younger years and was a lifetime Phillies fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Rita A. Quinn Snyder, who passed away on January 5, 2010; his brother, Charles Snyder; his three sisters, Mary Caggtiano, Dolores Fidler and Frances Schlachter. Richard is survived by his son, Richard "Rick" C. Snyder, husband of Cookie, of Pottsville; his two daughters, Kathi Grate, of Pottsville and Patricia Fatora, wife of John, of Pottsville; his five grandchildren, Richard Grate III, Jessica Snyder, Christine Cappella, Holly Maio and Krysta Halye-Houtz; his 8 Great grandchildren, Richard Grate IV and Chayton Grate, Joseph, Hannah and Danielle Cappella and Kieran, Aeden and Simon Maio; his great great granddaughter, Riley Cappella; several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at 9:30 A.M. in Saint Patrick's Church, 400 Mahantongo Street, Pottsville. Friends may call on Monday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and also on Tuesday morning from 8:00 A.M. until 9:00 A.M. at Schlitzer-Allen-Pugh Funeral Home, Inc., 6th & West Market Streets, Pottsville. Interment with Military Honors will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either: Pinnacle Health Hospice, One Norwegian Plaza, Pottsville, PA 17901 or The American Cancer Society, Schuylkill Unit, 16 North Fourth Street, Minersville, PA 17954.
