YORK - Richard P. March, 89, Passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2008. He was the husband of the late Ruth A. [Winter] March for 63 years. A celebration of life tribute service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 1551 Kenneth Road, York with Mr. Richard Kutz officiating. Full military honors will be provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. A visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Born July 3, 1918 in York the son of the late Walter H., Sr. and Amy I. [Bupp] March, he graduated from North York High School, attended Lehigh University and earned an engineering certificate. He worked in his own business as a land surveyor until his retirement in 2005 at age 87. Mr. March was the senior surveyor in York County for many years and also had worked as the York County Surveyor in the 1950's. He was a member of Viking Athletic Assoc.; Shiloh American Legion; West York VFW; German American Club; Cotillion Club; Latin Satin Dance Club; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, York 213. He was a former member, and President of the West York School Board. His Masonic affiliations included, F&AM Blue Lodge; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, York Forest 30 where he was active with the Chanters; and Zembo Shrine. Richard was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of WWII; he was a drill sergeant and also performed highly technical and classified work in support of the war effort at Eglin Field, Florida. Mr. March is survived by two sons, Richard P. March, II and wife Phyllis March and Michael J. March and wife Deborah March all of York; four grandchildren, Richard P. March, III, S. Matthew March, Michael J. March, II, and Christopher J. March; a sister, Ruth E. Winter of York; a brother in law, Roy J. Winter, Jr. of Dover; and a sister in law, Edith Naylor of York. He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter H. March, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of Christ Scientist, 401 E. Market St., York, PA 17403.
