WILLIAMSPORT - Richard L. “Dick” Craven, 70, died on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. He was married on June 10, 1972 to the late Grace I. (Smith) who had died on June 10, 1995. They had celebrated 23 years as husband and wife. Richard was born on February 28, 1945 in Williamsport and was the son of the late Vincent O. and Grace (Baeir) Craven. He was a graduate of Williamsport High School, class of 1965. He joined the US Army and served during the Vietnam War. Richard had worked at Eureka Paper Box and retired in 2001. He was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church until they closed and then attended Christ Episcopal Church. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 104, Loyal Order of Moose #145, VFW Post 844, Fraternal Order of Eagles #970, Young Men’s Democratic Club and the Republican Club. He enjoyed playing bingo, setback and being with his daughter, grandchildren and great-great grandson. Richard is survived by one daughter; Brenda L. Mitchley of Williamsport, three grandchildren; Ashley Mitchley, Michael Splitt and Brittany Gettinger, all of Williamsport, one great grandson; Jax Mitchley, one niece; Michele Gaines and husband George and one nephew; Matthew Craven. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother; Vincent L. Craven. There will be a gathering of family and friends 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2015 at Christ Episcopal Church, 426 Mulberry St., Williamsport with the memorial service following at 4:00 p.m. The Reverend Canon Frederick Miller will officiate the service. Military honors will follow at the church by the Jersey Shore VFW. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being handled by the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St., Williamsport. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Fund and then mail to the VFW Post 844, 1290 W. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
