RED LION Richard John Diamond, 90, died at 2:25 AM Sunday, September 7, 2014 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Doris A. (Frietsch) Diamond with whom he celebrated a 66th wedding anniversary on May 30, 2014. A service to celebrate Mr. Diamond’s life will be 4:00 PM Wednesday at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion with a flag folding ceremony by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A visitation will be from 3 to 4:00 PM Wednesday at the chapel. Mr. Diamond was born December 3, 1923, in New York City. He was the son of the late Jacob S. and Elizabeth (Weis) Diamond. Following graduation from high school, Mr. Diamond served with the United States Navy as a Radioman Second Class aboard the U.S.S. LST Flotilla 23 during World War II. He later established his own electronics business, Toll Tronics, and serviced toll stations for many of the bridges and tunnels in the greater New York City area. He retired in 1992. In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Richard and Laurie Diamond of Ocean View DE and Robert and Carol Diamond of Morrisville, NC; a daughter, Patricia and George Platis of York; thirteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Challis of Banning, CA; a niece, Jackie Challis; and a nephew, Ronnie and Pam Challis. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Edwin Challis.
