YORK - Richard Earl Steffee, 87, of York Township, entered into rest on Monday, December 30, 2013 at his residence. Family and friends are invited to his viewings on Friday, January 3, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday 10-11 a.m. at Stony Brook Mennonite Church, 15 Locust Grove Rd. in York. The service will follow at 11 a.m. with his son, The Reverend Larry Steffee officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc. 35 Gotham Place in Red Lion is assisting with the arrangements. Mr. Steffee was born in Dover on August 30, 1926, the son of the late Roy N. and Marie I. (Kleiser) Steffee. He retired from ACCO in York after 30 years of service. Prior to that he had worked for New York Wire Company in Mt. Wolf. After retirement, he served as a volunteer transporter at York Hospital for 18 years and gave over 3000 hours of time serving others. He found great enjoyment in meeting and making many friends during those years. Mr. Steffee was a 1944 graduate of William Penn High School in York. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Baltimore Orioles fan and spent all of his life cheering them on. He also enjoyed playing 500 at local card clubs up until the time of his death. He was a member of the Girard Athletic Association, Conewago Club, ACCO Club, and Springfield Sportsman’s Club. He was an avid deer and small game hunter. He participated in fund raising for Nashville Volunteer Fire Company throughout the year. Mr. Steffee will be sadly missed by his loving children, The Reverend Larry Steffee and his wife Reta of Dowelltown, TN, Wayne Steffee and his wife Toni of Hamilton, NJ, Lorie Grosh and her husband Jim of York, and Lisa Barshinger and her husband, Baron of York; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Smith of Red Lion; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Merle, and George Steffee. Memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army, 50 E.
