RENOVO - Richard E. Thorsten, 68, of Missouri City, TX a former resident of Renovo passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, October 9, 2014. He was born on March 10, 1946 in Renovo, the son of the late Harry S. and Ann P. (Valyo) Thorsten. Richard was married on October 18, 1969 to the former Donna M. Shank and they celebrated nearly 45 years of marriage together. He worked as an engineer for Bethlehem Steel in Pittsburgh and in 1978 moved to Texas where he worked for Hubbell Inc. (formerly A.B. Chance). For the past 7 years he owned and operated the R.E.T. Consulting Co. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School. He attended Penn State University and then moved on to graduate from the University of Houston where he received a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering. He was a member of the Elks. His hobbies included woodworking, numerous do it yourself projects around the house, and above all else, spending time with his family. He was a very loyal member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Missouri City, TX. Richard was also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. Surviving are his loving wife Donna, one son Richard E. (Vanessa) Thorsten, II of Kansas City, Missouri, one daughter Paula M. (Gerald) Stout of Missouri City, Texas, and four grandsons Trevor, Soren, Evan, Riordan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 17, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 925 Huron Ave., with the Rev. Charles Ugo officiating. Friends and relatives will be received one hour prior to the service at the church. Also, there will be a luncheon following at 1 o’clock p.m. at The Sportsman’s Hotel and Restaurant. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Hyner. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E. Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701. Maxwell Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
