SEVEN VALLEYS- Richard E. "Ick" Smith, 81, died at his home Friday, April 18, 2008. He was the husband of the late Dorothy J. (Jackson) Smith. A Funeral Tribute Service will be held 12:00 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2008 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with Rev Thomas Beck officiating. A viewing will be held 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. preceding the service Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Christ United Methodist Church Cemetery, Jacobus with Military Honors provided by the Dallastown American Legion. Richard was born in York on January 28, 1927, a son of the late William and Effie M. (Kopp) Smith. He was a WWII US Navy veteran and awarded a Purple Heart. Richard was employed with Consolidated Freightways for over 25 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Dallastown American Legion Post# 605, the VFW Red Lion Post# 1446, the Vikings Club, and the Thirteenth Ward Political Club. Richard was a fan of baseball and was an avid fisher and hunter. Surviving Richard are two sons, Richard L and his wife, Lynn Smith of Seven Valleys and Randy L. Smith of Laurel, DE; two daughters, Karen S. Smith of Seven Valleys and Kathy A. and her husband, Terry Hamme of Loveland, CO; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Lamar J. Smith of York New Salem; two sisters, Betty J. Matthews of Seven Valleys and Phyllis and her husband, William Runkle of Ocean City, MD. Two brothers, Curvin L. Smith and William H. Smith precede him in death. He also leaves his pet Cockatiel, Hobo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice, 218 E. Market St., York, PA 17403.
