Red Lion—Richard E. Grove, 88, died Thursday, September 11, 2008 at Manor Care Health Services -South. He was the husband of Zelda V. (Grove) Grove to whom he was married for 57 years. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2008 at Life Tributes by Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc, 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, with his pastor, the Rev. James C. House officiating. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Monday, at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Zion United Methodist Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Born Aug 14, 1920 in Felton, he was the son of the late Ralph and Viotta M. (Flinchbaugh) Grove. Several years after graduating from high school, he served in the United States Army during World War II. During his service in the Army he was awarded numerous medals including the Bronze Star and Medal of Heroism, earned for saving two others soldiers who nearly drowned. He was employed as a Paint Sprayer with Lyon Metal for 34 dedicated years and retired in 1984. A life member of Red Lion VFW Post 1446, he was also a member of Red Lion American Legion Post 543, Victory Athletic Assoc., and the 12th Ward Democratic Club. Mr. Grove was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and gardening. In addition to his wife, Mr. Grove is also survived by one son, Randy G. Grove of Red Lion, one sister, Dorothy O. Grove of Dallastown and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Zion United Methodist Church, 1155 Felton Rd, Red Lion, Pa 17356. Casual dress is requested by the family.
