RED LION- Richard D. Smith, 83, passed away on Thursday July 7, 2011 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Alma P. (Herbst) Smith, who passed away on February 16, 2001. The couple wed on February 12, 1949. A celebration of life tribute service will be 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Pl., Red Lion with Certified Celebrant, Betty Frey officiating. A viewing will be from 9-10 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held at Windsor Church of God Cemetery. Mr. Smith was born on November 15, 1927 in Red Lion, a son of the late Mervin and Elsie (Cooper) Smith. Richard worked as a chain tester for American Chain & Cable Co., Inc. for over 30 years until his retirement. Mr. Smith was a member of the Girard Athletic Association and Collinsville Fish & Game Association. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. Mr. Smith is survived by two sons, Dale Smith and his fiancé, Carol Barshinger of Airville and Richard Smith and his wife Diana of Windsor; one daughter, Diane Allen and her husband, Dennis of Red Lion; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one on the way; and longtime friends, Richard Steffee and Edward Herbst. He was preceded in death by a brother, Sterling Smith. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity of your choice.
