RED LION - Richard B. “Dick” Poet, 86, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at York Hospital. He was the husband of Betty K. (Keller) Eaton Poet and the late Edith M. (Buttorff) Poet. A service will be held privately. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be private in Red Lion Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Dallastown American Legion Honor Guard. Mr. Poet was born in Red Lion on November 19, 1925, son of the late Bruce B. Poet, Sr. and Blanche V. (Flaharty) Poet. Richard retired from Caterpillar in York. He was a member of Jubilee Outreach Ministries in Red Lion, Hawk Gunning Club, Starview Sportsmen’s Association, Dallastown American Legion Post #605, and was a life member of West York VFW Post #8951. He served his country in the military during WWII. He also volunteered with Red Lion Fire Police. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Poet leaves a son, Barry L. Poet and his wife, Linda of Manchester; a daughter, Diane M. Torzok and husband, James of Red Lion; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Colleen Hauser and a stepson, Dale Eaton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jubilee Outreach Ministries, 93 N. Main Street, Red Lion, PA 17356.
