WELLSBURG, NY - Richard A. Paul, Age 82 of Wellsburg, NY passed away Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. He was born October 5, 1928 in Elmira, NY son of the late Marion & Gladys (Waddell) Paul. Richard graduated from Elmira Free Academy. He also served his country as a Radio Operator with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict in Germany from 1950 to 1953. Dick was a Corrections Officer and retired from the NY State Department of Corrections, Elmira Correctional Facility. He was also retired from the Elmira City School District where he worked in the Transportation Department. He was a 44 year member of the Elmira Heights American Legion Post #154, enjoyed woodworking and building grandfather clocks. His other interests included teaching archery, hunting both gun and archery. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed teaching and playing his Hawaiian Lap Steel Guitar. Dick loved collecting political pins and memorabilia. Survivors include his children, Michael Paul of Chandler, AZ, Diane & Michael Liddick of Elmira, Cheryl & Rick Hurd of Wellsburg, Timothy (Bonnie Hart) Paul of Elmira Heights, two sisters, Joyce DeSera and Arline Paul both of Elkland, PA, his loving companion Helen Beckman of Elmira, 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Richard was predeceased by his parents, a son Richard J. Paul and two brothers, Arnold Mike Paul and David Paul. Family and friends are invited to call from 10 AM to 12 Noon, Friday, April 29, 2011 at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main St. Wellsburg, NY. His service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 12 noon with Rev. James Carr officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira, NY.
